John Hunt Morgan and His Raiders
Published in Hardcover by University Press of Kentucky (April, 1985)
Author: Edison H. Thomas
Average review score:

Fast Read............
Details details.. I wish this book had more of them. I was a bit disappointed in getting this hardcover to see that I could read it in a couple of days. The pages go by fast as they cover Morgan's daring raids throughout Kentucky and the north. I was hoping to get more information than the quick coverage of the events that Morgan and his raiders went through. I would have liked to get some insight from his companions in the field and also from his enemy. This book seems to summarize Morgan and probably isn't the best when it comes to dates and details. It is important to suggest this book for anyone looking to read about a different Confederate cavalry commander instead of Mosby or Stuart that doesn't want to get into serious details. Perhaps this book exemplifies Morgan himself. It was short and fast. Morgan started his command quickly and finished quickly.

This little book covers a lot of ground!
GREAT BOOK! HARD TO PUT DOWN! Covers the "Thunderbolt of the Confederacy" John Hunt Morgan from Tompkinsville, KY to Greeneville, TN. This little book has more in it than a 800 page novel. If you are interested in Morgan's Raids or Civil War activity in the Kentucky - Tennessee area, this is a MUST READ!

Main event : the world of professional wrestling
Published in Unknown Binding by Dial Press ()
Author: Roberta Morgan
Average review score:

A fun and nostalgic read.
Writing a review of this book about twenty years after it was published, I appreciate it even more now than I did then. At the time, no wrestlers or people involved in the wrestling business were allowed to break "kayfabe" - carny-speak meaning they couldn't "expose" the wrestling business as entertainment and not truly sport. Now, that's all changed. Therefore, the books we read now on wreslting are true, gritty behind-the-scenes recounts of the business side of things. Roberta Morgan's book paints a simple but nostalgic portrait of the major superstars of the 1970's, filled with color photos, some of which have since become wrestling classics. It has snippets of interviews, information on the wrestlers' backgrounds (now so obviously fictional) and is just an enjoyable read. For a longtime wrestling fan, it will bring a glorious and bygone era alive.

Best background
For anyone who loves pro wrestling, this is the only book that tells you how it started, and who owned titles up until the 1980' and how they did it. Also features long interview by Andre the Giant, Bruno Sammartino, and other greats. Knows more than MacMahon.

Morgan's Marriage (Silhouette Special Edition, No 1005)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (January, 1996)
Author: Lindsay McKenna

:|
I am only giving this book three stars because I have read Lindsay McKenna's Morgan's Mercenaries series since the beginning. I like the characters, and the beginning books were so good, but they have slacked off since. I am holding out hope that they get better.

The one word that I can use to describe this book is Depressing. This beloved couple that we fell in love with in 'Return of a Hero' has been put through the ringer yet again. The horrible things that these characters have had to endure completely overshadows the earlier love story that I remember. I also know that if I had not read the earlier stories I would not have bought this book. Without the earlier stories involving Morgan and his family I do not think that any reader would enjoy this or understand the past of these characters or the company that Morgan put together, Perseus. I have already bought all of the books in this series, so I can only hope that they get better because this one was a huge disappointment.

True Love Endures All
Morgan's Marriage by Lindsey Mckenna is a book of hardship, tragedy and love. The underlying concept is that true love can overcome all obstacles. I have read all of Lindsey McKenna's series Morgan's Mercenaries. Each book can stand on its owns. This particular book tugged at my heart. It is a testament to the human spirit. If you love to read a story about people who are true sole mates and how they must each conquor their fears to find thier way back to each other , this is the book for you

Another Diana Gabaldon read
I bought this book specifically to read the D. Gabaldon chapter, but found that I enjoyed the entire book. The chapter Diana Gabaldon wrote with her son was a very enjoyable short story. I would recommend this book as a light read - especially for women with sons.

Diana Gabaldon's early work
I bought the book specifically to read the Diana Gabaldon chapter, but have found that I have enjoyed the entire book. I would recommend it for light reading, especially to women with sons.

The Precision Farming Guide for Agriculturists
Published in Paperback by Deere & Co Service Pubns (January, 1997)
Authors: Dan Ess, Mark Morgan, and Ralph Reynolds
Average review score:

Great basic intro, but lack modern and technical info
This book provides an excellent background for new precision farming students/users. It is centered around building knowledge about how precision farming works, and how it can be applied. THIS BOOK IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THOSE THAT ALREADY HAVE A THOROUGH BACKGROUND IN PRECISION FARMING. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU SEEK A MORE ADVANCED, TECHNICAL REFERENCE.

A good overview of the engineering behind precision farming
For anyone with an interest in precision farming but has only gained knowledge through magazine articles or talks on the subject, understanding this text can give a good foundation and insight for future learning on the subject. From the text, one can learn about the satellite system used in global positioning, remote sensing techniques, monitors aboard combines, sprayers and planters and computer communications in a modern farm production system. Finest attention to detail and sound decisions for maximum profitability is what precision farming is ultimately about. With an understanding and ability to apply the knowledge, opportunity awaits. This book is a starting point. I also believe that this book would work well as a supplemental text for a college or vocational agriculture course geared toward the subject.

Revolutionary Rangers: Daniel Morgan's Riflemen and Their Role on the Northern Frontier, 1778-1783
Published in Paperback by Heritage Books (01 May, 2002)
Authors: Richard B. La Crosse and Richard B. LaCrosse Jr.
Average review score:

Only centered on a few
I would have given it a higher rating if it had at least given credit to the entire roster of 500 men hand picked to be Riflemen. The original Roster as complete as possible would have been nice. It seems to only center around a few not the entire regiment. All of these unnamed men were just as brave as the few written about, many of them suffered with the rest of the men at Valley Forge and elsewhere and stayed with the Riflemen to the end of the war.
While it gives a good account of the some of the deeds performed by Morgan's men, it should have been more centered on the entire group not just a few. Maybe there will be a follow up with more emphasis on the entire regiment?

A valuable addition to the research library
This well-researched book provides valuable insight for the Revolutionary War student. While scholarly and fact driven, it makes this place and time in our history particularly accessible. It is especially of interest to those who would understand the significant role of the common man. Take special note of the photographs and the painstakingly presented appendices. Also, a nice bibliography is offered for further reading.

The Sporting News Selects......: Baseball's 25 Greatest Moments
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Distributed Products (October, 1999)
Authors: Ron Smith, Sporting News Publishing Company, and Joe Morgan
Average review score:

Great Pictures
This book has wonderful pictures and stories. I bought this book for my boyfriend, a huge baseball fan, and he really loved it!

25 Great Baseball Moments to argue about with your friends
"Baseball's 25 Greatest Moments" as selected by the Sporting News is a book that you argue about rather than review. The book begins the top position, Bobby Thompson's 1951 home run, "The Shot Heard 'Round the World" when the Giants won the pennant, the Giants won the pennant, the Giants won the pennant. This is one of a dozen home runs listed in the 25 Greatest Moments, and while you will not be surprised to find Fisk, Mazeroski, and Dent on this list you might be stunned to find that Babe Ruth is absent: no Number 60 and no "Called Shot." The list also includes defensive plays by Mays and Richardson as well as fatal errors by Buckner and Owens, pitching performances by Larsen and Haddix, and record setting performances by Aaron and Ripken. There are even looks at the home run races 1961 and 1998 and the Brooklyn Dodgers "Boys of Summer" season in 1955. Including Lou Gehrig's "Luckiest Man Alive" speech is a nice inclusion on the list.

Even the Sporting News finds it impossible to stop at 25, as the book also offers lists of Other Great Moments that feature The Next 10 (e.g., Johnny Vander Meer's back-to-back no hitters), The All-Star Game (e.g., Carl Hubble strikes out five straight future Hall of Famers in the All-Star Game), Moments That Changed The Game (e.g., first night baseball game), Unusual and Unforgettable (e.g., Bill Veeck sends Eddie Gaedel to the plate), and Individual Feats (e.g., Wambsganss unassisted triple play in the World Series). This books features lots of great pictures and recaptures those moments you remember actually watching on television as well as those you have only heard about in baseball lore. I especially like the retrospective comments on the players involved looking back on the moments that made them immortal.

Okay, for the record, here is my argument for obvious changes: I would put Ruth's 60th home run, DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak, Williams finishing at .406, and Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier on the list. What would I take off the current list? The homers by Chambliss, Brett and Carter, and Cobb's all-time hit record being broken by that compulsive gambler fellow who got banned for life. Now it is your turn at bat...

Although some of the poems are a bit rough, overall this book provided many great examples of "up-and-coming work" that were both intelligent and inspiring.

The Turnip: An Old Russian Folktale
Published in Paperback by Paper Star (November, 1996)
Author: Pierr Morgan
Average review score:

An engaging folk tale, well presented.
My toddler asks for this book almost every evening at bedtime, the repetitions getting a response similar to that gained from childrens' play songs like "B-I-N-G-O" or "Wheels on the Bus". My spouse finds the slavic names somewhat daunting, but I find that they ryhme along just fine. The inclusion of a "cast shot" as the last page of the story allows me to practice memory skills with my son, asking him the oft-repeated names so he can point to the characters. This tale has me looking with eagerness for other folk tale retellings to share with my children.

a great story that has a cumulative effect
Our 3 year old loved rhyming the names and re-reading the story to us. The illustrations embellished the words and stirred his imagination.

Upstairs in the Garden
Published in Paperback by W.W. Norton & Company (July, 1991)
Author: Robin Morgan
Average review score:

A Garden of Delights
I don't read much poetry but like Robin Morgan's other books, and someone gave me this for my birthday. I literally laughed and cried and "tasted" these poems like I never had any others. In fact, the tiny entire novel that is each poem here was gripping, and not at all inaccessible. A poet friend tells me that Morgan is a real, fine poet, and now I know why he feels this way. Her older poems here are more "formal," then later on she lets loose with passion. The skill (and wit) is Stoppard-ian, the politics feminist, the poetry lyrical. Now I actually am reading more poetry!

Robin Morgan works magic with her words
I bought this book (hardcover) sometime in 1993 & it remains one of my all-time favorite poetry volumes. Morgan's poetry expresses her radical feminist political stance, yet it also transcends politics and speaks to the greater human experience. Her work reaches out on so many levels that I have yet to find someone (of either gender) who truly cannot appreciate its depth and value. It seems, also, that each time I return to her words I find new lessons and new meanings. I wholeheartedly recommend this book as well as her other earlier volumes of poetry: Monster, Lady of the Beasts, and Depth Perception. Her later volume, A Hot January, is also worth exploring--though I enjoy it less than her early works. In short, read her work. You won't regret it...
